| Is The microorganism
in Actinovate® Soluble "naturally occurring"? Yes. "Naturally occurring" means that this bacteria could be found in just about any soil; however, its numbers in a natural environment are very low. Actinovate® Soluble is an extremely high concentration of this unique Streptomyces strain. This allows the plant to receive the maximum benefits of the microbe. How does it work on my plants? The Actinovate® Soluble microorganism does many things. When introduced into the soil, it finds its home around the roots of plants. Here it colonizes and propagates. While settling in the root system, this strain of Streptomyces forms a synergetic relationship with the plant, feeding off of the plants waste materials while secreting beneficial and protective enzymes. The combination of this colonization and the protective secretions forms a defensive barrier around the root system of the plant. Finally, the byproducts (or waste materials) produced by this microbe actually aid the plant, complexing minerals found in the soil and, thus, creating a stronger more robust plant. This symbiotic relationship is the optimum balance for the plant in a natural, healthy soil environment. Actinovate® Soluble makes it happens. What does "complexing" mean? Complexing is the process by which minerals are reduced to a form that is absorbable by plants and animals. Streptomyces lydicusstrain WYEC 108 (the microbe found in Actinovate® Soluble) produces siderophores, an enzyme responsible for this action. How was this bacteria discovered? Scientists from University of Idaho were conducting research on a field of linseed plants that were completely disease free. Examining soil samples from this field, scientists isolated over 200 strains of bacteria. After extensive lab and field tests it was determined that one of these microorganisms, Streptomyces lydicus WYEC 108 (Actinovate® Soluble), was actively creating a soil environment unfriendly to damaging pathogens. Will overuse of Actinovate® Soluble harm (burn) my plants? No. An overabundance of Actinovate® Soluble is in no way harmful to your plants. It is safe for your workers to handle as well. Can Actinovate® Soluble live without a plant in the soil? Yes. The Actinovate® Soluble microbes will live in the soil regardless of whether a plant is present. They will continue to propagate as long as there is a food source for them such as peat, bark, humates, decomposed organics, etc. In this environment the organisms can survive at an effective level for 18 months or longer. How long do the effects of Actinovate® Soluble last? Actinovate® Soluble will remain effective the entire growing season for perenials; for annuals, it is the life of the plant; for turf, about 6-8 weeks. Under what conditions can I store it? What is the shelf life? Actinovate® Soluble can be stored safely at temperatures below 140 degrees F. although it is recommended that it be stored at room temperatures. Freezing will not harm Actinovate® Soluble. The shelf life is guaranteed at 12 months. In what sizes is Actinovate® Soluble available? What are the rates of application? Actinovate® Soluble comes in 18 oz. containers. There are 12 containers per case. For greenhouses and nurseries, mix 6 oz. in 100 gallons of water. One gallon of solution should be applied to 1 cubic foot of mix. (Check your Mix Potting Guide for 'number of containers per cubic foot' to determine ounces for your specific size container. Ex. Filling 6" azalea pots, you get 18 pots per cu. ft. of mix. Therefore, 1 gallon (128 oz.) divided by 18 = 7-8 oz. per pot. One container of Actinovate® Soluble will treat about 5,000 6" pots.). When using an injector dissolve Actinovate® Soluble into 1 gallon of water to create a solution. Set the injector at 1:100 and apply as above. For turf apply one 18-oz. container per 1/3 acre for problem areas and initial application. Re-apply every 6-8 weeks for maintainence at a rate of 18-oz per acre. Are there any known substances incompatible with Actinovate® Soluble? Bactericides should not be used in conjunction with this product. How does Actinovate® Soluble save me money? Actinovate® Soluble creates an environment unfriendly to damaging soil pathogens. This will greatly reduce or eliminate the need for chemical fungicides. Even if only one chemical application is eliminated, the cost of the Actinovate® Soluble is made back. It is common for most growers using Actinovate® Soluble reduce their loss due to disease to 1% or less. Production is increased, costs are reduced and money is put right where it ought to be... the grower's pocket. |
